He is survived by: his wife Betty Shepard; his children, Sarah Albritton, Shea Adams (Chad), James Shepard Jr. and Rebel Campbell; his siblings, Peggy Newton, Joanne Bono, Kathy Turley and Michael Shepard (Linda); his grandchildren, Jayden Woods, Whitley Pugh (Dylan) and Tori Duncan (Kyle); and his nephew Frankie Barnhill.
