He was predeceased by: his father James Spencer Roy. He is survived by: his wife Carla Elledge Roy of Arley; his mother Margaret Howard Roy of Birmingham; his son James Nathan Thomson of Nerang, Australia; and his brother Spencer Roy of Auburn.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to Arley First Baptist Church.
