She was predeceased by: her husband Joseph Walton "Joe" Runyan, Sr.; her parents, Mary Lillian Richardson Purnell and Hawthorne Purnell; her brother Bobby Purnell (Pam); and her grandparents, Frank Richardson, Nancy McKissack Richardson, Oliver Purnell and Mary Lillian Hawthorne Purnell.
She is survived by: her children, Nancy Runyan Gaston (Maury) and Walt Runyan (Lisa); her grandchildren, Cole Runyan and Alison Gaston; and her sister-in-law Pam Purnell (Bobby). She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Sunday, September 20th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Benefield Funeral Home (85499 AL-9, Ashland, AL 36251). The lying in state was held on Monday, September 21st 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Ashland First Methodist Church (83558 AL-9, Ashland, AL 36251). A funeral service was held on Monday, September 21st 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that the needs of Ashland First Methodist Church be considered, such as the organ or building fund.
