It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Billy Wayne Abernathy of Athens, Alabama, who passed away on February 15, 2023, at the age of 85, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Van Abernathy and Lurleen Browning Abernathy; and his siblings, Robert Abernathy, Louis Abernathy, Kenneth Abernathy, Jimmy Abernathy, Van Abernathy, Jr., Willard Abernathy and Ruby Lawler.

He is survived by : his wife Shirley Herron Abernathy; his children, Steve Abernathy (JoLynne), Sandra Gaines (Mike) and Jason Abernathy (Holly); his grandchildren, Adam Hall (Keysha), Josh Hall, Leigh Morrill (Dave), Amy Coleman (Wes), Ryne Abernathy and Cade Abernathy; and his great grandchildren, Eli Morrill, Lillie Morrill, Zeke Morrill, Jake Morrill, Makena Hall, Noah Hall, Carter Sylvester, Oakley Sylvester, Blair Hall, Cannon Hall and Ruby Lynne Coleman.
