Bates; his son Tim Bates of Napa, CA; his daughter-in-law Kellie Bates of Sammamish, WA; his grandchildren, Haley, Kelsey and Campbell; his daughter Corrie Bates (Jeff Bielefeld) of Forest Grove, OR; his grandchildren, Kris and Elliott; his son Daniel Bates (Krista) of Athens; his grandchildren, Tyler, Ethan, Makenna, Canon and Beau; his great grandchild Drew Bates of Athens; and his sister Vicki Jones (David) of The Villages, Florida..

Visitation was held on Saturday, April 6th 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at the McConnell Funeral Home (1200 E Forrest St, Athens, AL 35613). A graveside service was held on Saturday, April 6th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the Higgins Cemetery.
