He was predeceased by: his father Billy Sims; and his stepfather Gene Middlebrooks. He is survived by: his son Jesse Sims; his mother Dean Middlebrooks; his brother Dale Sims (Deborah); his niece Hanah Hicks (Jonathan); his uncle Charles Stewart; his great-aunt Doris Anderson; and his cousins, Chuck Stewart (Maria), Barry Stewart (Sherry) and Weston Stewart (Magan).
