With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Eugene Thornton of Athens, Alabama, who passed away on April 25, 2023 at the age of 93. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, James Ruf and Louise Thornton Ruf; his siblings, Leslie Thornton, Leroy Thornton, Lounette Champion and Bernice Couch; and his son-in-law David Owens.
He is survived by: his wife Macle Atkins Thornton; his children, Denny Thornton (Phyllis), Mike Thornton (Connie), Philip Thornton (Kim) and Becky Thornton Owens; his grandchildren, Taylor Thomas (Jamey), Lance Thornton (Kara), Melanie Shackleford (Jeremiah), Lauren Hall, David Owens (Terrie), Caitlin Thornton, Jordan Thornton and Brandee Black; and his great grandchildren, Jacob, Casey Lee, Tyler Shackleford, Blaire, Cannon Hall, Averi, Dawson Owens, Willow Thornton, Mae Thomas, Caden and Corey Charneco.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in Mr. Thornton's honor to Hospice of Limestone County and St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
