It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Macle Lee Thornton of Athens, Alabama, who passed away on February 5, 2026, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Odie Atkins and Emma Atkins (Williams); her husband Eugene Thornton; her siblings, Hollan Atkins, Ralph Atkins, Johnny Atkins, Bobby Carl Atkins and Margie Whitt; and her son-in-law David Owens.
She is survived by: her children, Denny Thornton (Phyllis), Mike Thornton (Connie), Philip Thornton (Kim) and Becky Owens; her sisters, Patsy Carter (Jackie) and Sue Breeding (Raymond); her grandchildren, Melanie Shackleford (Jeremiah), Taylor Thomas, Lance Thornton (Kara), Lauren Hall, Caitlin Thornton, Jordan Thornton, Dave Owens (Terrie), Brandee Black and Jacob Shackleford (Bree); and her great grandchildren, Casey Lee Shackleford, Tyler Shackleford, Blaire Hall, Willow Thornton, Mae Thomas, Hampton Braswell, Caden Charneco, Corey Charneco, Averi Owens, Dawson Owens and Brantley Shackleford. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
