He is survived by: his wife Constance Griffin; his children, John Griffin, Jr., Oscar Griffin, Corlynn Griffin and Jennifer Griffin; his grandchildren, Corneilus Griffin, Tawanda Fuller, Ariel Griffin, Cordarius Griffin, Anthony Patterson, Jr. and Lakayla Nelson; his great grandchild Aryah Vidal; his sisters, Alice Preston of Auburn, AL, Margaret Tatum of Auburn, AL and Elizabeth Richardson of Auburn, AL; his mother-in-law Annie Mae Rankins; and his siblings-in-law, Wallace Rankins, Jr., Melissa Rankins of Atlanta, GA and Vivian Rankins of Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

“Since learning of John Griffin’s passing, a wide array of emotions surprisingly arose within me. For the sake of someone else’s peace, I chose to remain silent for the past fifty years although my existence is no secret among several members of the Griffin family. I’ve written and revised what I wanted to write here a few times because I want to remain respectful even though respect wasn’t given to me. John Griffin is also survived by me, his eldest child. I’d like to extend my sincerest and deepest condolences to the entire Griffin family during your time of mourning. May the Holy Spirit be the great comforter that He is for each of you during your time of sorrow. Sincerely, Donna Dowdell (Dee Dee)”
