He was predeceased by : his former life partner Evelyn Irwin Banister; his son Simon Alexander "Alex" Banister; his brothers, William "Bill" Banister, Chris Banister and Grady Banister; and his parents, Grady H. Banister and Mary Porter Banister.
He is survived by : his wife Kaye Heptinstall Banister; his children, Angela Banister Schuessler (David), Ashley A. Wheeler (Mike), J. Rhett Wheeler (Holly) and Laurie W. Hanson; his grandchildren, Simon Schuessler, Ruby Schuessler, John Horsley, Rhett Horsley, Grace Hanson, Tyler Hanson, Elizabeth Wheeler and William Wheeler; and his stepchildren, Douglas Stewart, Sarah Stewart and Margaret Stewart. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and other family members.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Oak Mountain Presbyterian Church's "Mercy" fund, providing assistance for those in need and reflecting Simon's lifelong commitment to giving back.
