He was predeceased by: his parents, James Cates and Euville Cates (Jackson); and his wife Mildred Carroll. He is survived by: his children, Danny Cates (Shelia) and Barbara Blackwell (Bruce); his brother Luke Cates (Bonnie); his grandchildren, Kayla Cates Knight (Bradley), Jesse Blackwell, Michelle Blackwell Marcuson (Paul) and Kristine Cates Lamar (Josh); and his great grandchildren, Elijah Knight, Everly Knight, Braden Marcuson, Ethan Marcuson, Garett Marcuson, Olivia Marcuson and Jude Lamar.
