With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Cathenia Spencer Guider of Birmingham, Alabama, born in Eutaw, Alabama, who passed away on September 23, 2025 at the age of 97. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
As we bid Cathenia farewell, let us not mourn the absence of her physical form, but rather celebrate the essence of her spirit that lingers in the spaces between moments. For Cathenia is not truly gone, but merely transformed, her energy intertwined with the fabric of the universe itself, forever dancing among the stars.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Reverend Curley James and Alice Spencer; and her daughter Dr. Cora A. Johnson. She is survived by: her daughter Cathenia Doretha Guider Dobbs; her son-in-law Eric L Dobbs Sr.; her grandchildren, Cora Victoria Turner (Jeffery Turner), Coley Works Jr. (Jessica Works) and Christopher Works; and her great grandchild Christina A. Turner.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 4th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Smith & Gaston Funeral Services (102 6th Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211). A burial will be held on Saturday, October 4th 2025 at 12:30 PM at the Elmwood Cemetery (600 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Birmingham, AL 35211).
