Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved Charles E Townsend of Birmingham, Alabama, who passed away at the age of 92, on April 13, 2024. He was predeceased by : his parents, Charles Townsend and Lena Townsend; and his sister Lucile Townsend Joseph Tarver. He is survived by : his children, Gena of Atlanta, GA and Michael Townsend of Atlanta, GA; his grandchildren, Erin and Collin Townsend of Atlanta, GA; his brother-in-law E. W. Franklin III Stirrup (Barbara) of Miami, FL; and his close friend Patricia Blakely. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, relatives and many loving friends.

Visitation was held on Friday, April 19th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM and on Saturday, April 20th 2024 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Smith & Gaston Funeral Services (102 6th Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211). A celebration of life was held on Monday, April 22nd 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Cathedral Church (2017 6th Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203).

They included the Danford Foundation Fellowship, Outstanding Service Award from Vocational Department, Birmingham City Schools, Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity and the Mayor's Award for outstanding service.
