She was predeceased by: her father Smith Robertson Oliver, Sr.; her husband George Roy Johnston, Jr.; her mother Blonden Griffith Oliver; and her siblings, Carolyn Stevens, Blondene Woodruff, Sybil Stone, Rosalia Williams, Smith Robertson Oliver, Jr., Harold Douglas Oliver, Fredrick Logwood Oliver and C. Herbert Oliver, Sr..
She is survived by: her children, Michael Bruce Johnston, Phillip Anthony Johnston (Denise), Carol Johnston McInstosh Brown (Jesse) and Roy Gerard Johnston (Barbara); her siblings-in-law, Herman Kenneth Johnston (Bettye), McDaniel Alfred Johnston, Rosemary Johnston Hailey and Gladys Johnston McGee (Clarence); her cousin Alta Lee; and her friend Betty Black. She is also survived by grandchildren, great- grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held on Friday, October 10th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Public Viewing Smith & Gaston Funeral Services (102 6th Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211). A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 11th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the First Congregational United Church of Christ (1024 Center St, Birmingham, AL 35204). A burial will be held on Saturday, October 11th 2025 at 2:30 PM at the Elmwood Cemetery (600 Martin Luther King Jr Dr, Birmingham, AL 35211).
