He was predeceased by: his parents, Emory Glenn Hicks Sr. and Mary Thelma Ray Hicks; and his former wife Jo Ann Turner Hicks. He is survived by: his wife Linda Foster Hicks; his children, Steve Hicks and Julie Hicks Smith; his son-in-law Bart Smith; his grandchildren, Aubrey Pierson (Chris), Alex Smith (Megan), Charlotte Joann Pierson, Turner Clyde Pierson, Everett Thomas Smith, Carson Alexander Smith and Emory Lynn Pierson; and his stepson Mark Foster (Jennifer). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Independence Place of Alabama at First Baptist Church Trussville.
