He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Grady and Carolyn Klaus Gibbons; and his wife Mary Anne Bates. He is survived by: his daughter Melissa Gibbons Whetstone (Gregory Todd); his grandsons, Morgan Robins Whetstone (Chapin Smith), Wesley Whitfield Whetstone (Anna Grace O'Neal) and Bates Everitt Whetstone; his great grandchildren, Anne Douglas Whetstone and Samuel Knight Whetstone; his son Farling Whitfield Gibbons; his granddaughter Bailey Gibbons Garrett (Michael Chase); his great grandchildren, Michael Grady Garrett and Caleb Glenn Garrett; and his sister Eleanor Kennedy Schiffman.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Mountain Brook Baptist Church (3631 Montevallo Rd, Birmingham, AL 35213). A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 18th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
