We are sad to announce that on September 18, 2025, at the age of 83, Gwendolyn Gooden Nichols of Birmingham, Alabama passed away. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Annie Bell Hunter and Louis Gooden; and her sisters, Geraldine Prince and Ethel Small. She is survived by: her children, Bill McKinney, Jr. (Cassandra), Rory McKinney, Montrese M. Vason, Faith Jordan, Eric Johnson and Reggie Johnson; her husband James Nichols Jr.; her friends, Patrinella Brown, Kim McKenzie, Zatie Mae Kemp, Diane Naylor and Yusef Omar; her brother Reverend Louis Gooden, Jr. (Teresa); her grandchildren, Mecie, Eric, Chris, Julian, Krissy, Raven and Quinten; and her great grandchildren, TJ, CJ, Camden, Isaiah, Maddi, Mia, Jalah and Qourtney. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, family members, and friends.

Viewing was held on Friday, September 26th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Smith & Gaston Funeral Services (102 6th Ave SW, Birmingham, AL 35211). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, September 27th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the 25th Ave Baptist Church. A burial was held on Saturday, September 27th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Oakland Memorial Garden Cemetery (1230 Warrior Rd, Birmingham, AL 35218).
