He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Rufus Spruell and Pauline Spruell; his wife Shirley Spruell; his children, John R Spruell Jr. and Tracy Blackwell (Aaron); his grandchildren, Ashley Harrison, Bradley Blackwell (Morgan), Kimberly Parsons (Taylor), Amanda Dement (Zane) and Sarah Thrasher (Tim); and his great grandchildren, Jayce Harrison, Kynzlee Harrison, Emilia Blackwell, Emersyn Parsons, Elaine Blackwell, Alice Thrasher and Ambyr Thrasher.
Visitation was held on Monday, December 1st 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home (1591 Gadsden Hwy, Birmingham, AL 35235). A funeral service was held on Monday, December 1st 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the same location.
