He was predeceased by: his parents, James Ray and Nellie Mae Cates; his wife Bonnez Croft Cates; and his brother Charles Lee Cates (Mary). He is survived by: his daughters, Cathy Ivey (Bill) and Lisa Jesse (Sam); his grandchildren, David Ivey (Jessica), Mary Ivey Edgar (Dustin), Eric Jesse, Neil Jesse and Samantha Jesse; and his great grandchildren, Abigail, Hannah Edgar, Rose and Ty Ivey. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
