She was predeceased by: her parents, William Littleton Thornton, Jr. and Patricia James Thornton; her sisters, Barbara Thornton Brierre and Mary Thornton Taylor; her brother-in-law Gary Reuben Dent; and her parents-in-law, Lawrence Michael Halter and Evelyn Waites Halter.
She is survived by: her children, Katie Halter Benson (Bryan) and Michael Halter III (Mimi Shannon); her grandchildren, Alex, Leah and Sara Benson; her siblings, Cathy Thornton Dent, Bill Thornton III (Deedra) and Jim Thornton (Virginia); and her siblings-in-law, Bert Taylor and Mary Ellen Halter Zinser (Mike). She is also survived by aunts, uncles, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, August 25th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church (2 Xavier Cir, Birmingham, AL 35213). A Mass of Christian burial was held on Tuesday, August 25th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
