He was predeceased by : his wife Mildred Thompson; his parents, Walt Thompson and Bessie Thompson; his grandchildren, Cody Howard and Allie Nicole Shelton; his brothers, Clarence and Rufus Thompson; and his son-in-law Randy Barnes.

He is survived by : his daughters, Dianne Barnes and Donna Shelton; his grandchildren, Jamie Howard, Lindsey Shelton and Megan Gober (John Eric); and his great grandchildren, Abbie Howard, Serenity Howard and Elora Howard. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
