He was predeceased by: his father Henry Franklin Chappell; his former wives, Betty Jordan Chappell and Margaret Martin Chappell; his son Donald Gregory Chappell; and his stepmother Jeanne Ross Collier Chappell.
He is survived by: his wife Darlene Chappell; his children, Donna Chappell Houff (Dennis) and Ron Chappell (Jean); his stepchildren, Tim Gillespie (Melissa), Margo Gillespie, Daryl Ross (Cresap) and Shane Ross (Dawn); and his grandchildren, Christopher Houff (Greta), Jamison Houff (Lauren), Nathan Houff, Rebecca Lalley (Nate), Tiara Kalahiki (Kamoi) and Emma Chappell. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to Kindred Hospice-Rainbow City or Calvary Baptist Church in Boaz.
