He was predeceased by : his parents, H. M. "Goldie" Cox and Jessie Colburn Cox Yerby; his siblings, Jesse "PeeWee" Cox and Joyce Reilly; and his siblings-in-law, Frances Ingram, Tommy Johnston and Thomas "Buddy" Ingram.

He is survived by : his wife June Nichols Cox; his sister Vernita Johnston of Centreville; his children, Jill McGee (Duane) of Centreville and Joe Cox (Kelly) of Randolph; his grandchildren, Katie Smith (Edward) of Mountain Brook and Jake Covington (Emma) of Baltimore, Maryland; his great grandchild Ward Smith; his siblings-in-law, Linda A. Cox, Tammy Nichols, John Nichols and Pat Reilly; and his nephews, Darron Cox, Russell Cox, Brandon Johnston, Brian Johnston, Kevin Nichols, Chad Nichols and Ricky Reilly. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
