He was predeceased by : his parents, Alice Geraldine "Jerry" Henson Coates and John Thomas Coates, Sr.; and his brother David P. Coates. He is survived by : his brother Johnny Coates (Betty) of Anderson, SC; his nephews, Drew Taylor and Patrick Coates; and his niece MaryAlice Sumrall.
