He was predeceased by: his parents, George Lawrence Hayes, Jr. and Juanita Guy Hayes Tarver; his wife Martha Jo Bumpers Hayes; and his siblings, Otis Hayes and Vivan Ann Hayes.

He is survived by: his daughter Stacey Chason (Jay); his granddaughter Jamie Poulin (Geoffrey); his great grandchildren, Lucy Jo and Grace Marie Poulin; and his siblings, Caron Hayes (Betty), Patsy Daugherty and Gwenolia Smith. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
