He was predeceased by: his parents, Elijah Smitherman and Ruby Hand Smitherman; his wife Margie Smitherman; his son Bony Smitherman; and his siblings, Mary Nell Barnett, Velma Moates, Pauline Lucas, Mildred Littleton, Betty Edwards, Lloyd Smitherman and Bobby Joe Smitherman.
He is survived by: his daughter Virginia Patterson (Jackie) of Clanton; his grandchildren, Justin Patterson, Jason Patterson (Rebecca), Adrienne Patterson, Jackson Patterson (Lexie), David Smitherman and Jessica Wilson; his daughter-in-law Annette Smitherman; and his siblings, Kelvin Smitherman (Faye) and Tiny Johnson. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
