He was predeceased by: his parents, John Muriel Smith and Naomi Rasnick Smith; and his siblings, Johnnie Smith, Boyd Smith, Dywaine Smith, Muriel McClain, Carol Seay and Sarah Smith.
He is survived by: his wife Naoma Matney Smith; his children, Bernard Newton Smith, Jr. (Sandra), Jimmy Ray Smith (Patty), Terry Lee Smith (Cris), Samuel Able Smith (Lisa) and Susan Lynne Smith; and his sisters, Emily Brooks, Nancy L. Sparks, Bonnie Spearman and Ruth Smith. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, September 18th 2025 at 11:45 AM at the Alabama National Cemetery (3133 Hwy 119, Montevallo, AL 35115).
