It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Viva Lee Bates-Johnson of Cullman, Alabama, who passed away on October 13, 2025, at the age of 95, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, R. Lem Bates and Mamie P. Bates; and her siblings, Myrtle Hendrix, Dorothy Hancock, Robert Grady Bates, William Thomas Bates, Walter Jack Bates, John Thad Bates, Henry W Bates and Kenneth Terry Bates.
She is survived by: her children, Charlotte M. Mackin of Daphne, AL., Valarie Anita Johnson-Overturf of Montana, Tippi J. Lawson of Huntsville, AL. and Archie A. Johnson of Cullman, AL.; and her brother Franklin D. Bates. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
