She was predeceased by: her parents, William Carter and Hazel Carter; her brother William "Bill" Carter; and her children, Steven Atkinson and Angelia Sims.

She is survived by: her husband Eldred M. Sims, Jr. of Decatur; and her children, Carol A. Key (Richard) of Birmingham, Tracy A. Edgar (Tim) of Marietta, GA and Donnie M. Sims (Rita) of Leighton. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Roselawn Funeral Home (741 Danville Rd SW, Decatur, AL 35601). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, July 12th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
