He was predeceased by: his parents, Hershel Lindsey and Florie McNutt Lindsey; his sons, Richard Michael Lindsey and James Dean Lindsey; and his siblings, Everett Lindsey, Harold Lindsey and Glenda Jean Long.

He is survived by: his wife LaNelle Battles Lindsey of Decatur; his children, Mark Lindsey (Patti) of Sterling Heights, MI, Gregg Lindsey (Dana) of Hartselle, Gary Lindsey of Decatur, Tony Hill and Alesha Hill of Danville; and his sister Doris Singleton of Decatur. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
