Karen Mendheim wrote a sympathy message

“I am so very sorry to learn that Aunt Ban passed away on Sunday. She was a soft-spoken, loving woman and mother. My son Drew, Gayle, and I visited her one summer. We sat shelling peas for her to freeze, something Drew had never done. He enjoyed it immensely, not just because it was a novel experience but because Aunt Ban was so sweet and loving with him. That is a fond memory for both of us. I also have memories of visiting her house when our family went to Alabama and learning to remove corn kernels from the cob for canning. She will be missed by Drew and me as I am sure she will be missed by many others who had the opportunity of knowing this dear woman. Once again, as with Wilda, I want to go to Alabama to pay my respects, but I am unable to go at this time. Please know that I will be thinking of her children June, Ray, and Cecilia with love and regret for the loss of their wonderful, very special mother.”
