He is survived by: his mother Linda Shepard; his brothers, Jeffrey and Kenneth "Tripp" Smith; his son Gabe Newman (Carolyn); his grandchildren, Mills and John Walter Newman; his aunts and uncles, Willa Dean Condrey, Elisa Grier, Sue Campbell, Shelby, Robert and Larry Strickland; and his friend Tabatha Spivey. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins.
