He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Joseph James and Anna Marie Zezulak Benak; his wife Kathryn Joan Benak; his children, Ed Benak, Bob Benak (Beth), Bill Benak (Belinda), Steve Benak (Treva), Linda Winnett (Dennis) and Mike Benak (Jennifer); and his grandchildren, Matthew Benak (Hannah), Kathleen Flickinger (Daniel), Meghan Brandt (Matt), Joseph Benak (Lauren), Stephen Benak (Kayla), Andrew Benak, Kyle Benak (Anna), Kris Benak (Cara), Valerie Trieb (Joe), Mallory Monahan (Lucas), Kaylee Waldrip (Reid), Brynn Outlaw (Mack), Eryn Viscarra (Carlos), Bryan Grucza (Narineh), Michael Benak (Sarah), Cara Benak and Anna Kathryn Benak. He was also cherished by 24 great-grandchildren.
