He was predeceased by: his parents, James Leon and Stella Wicker Burleson; and his brother Joe Burleson. He is survived by: his wife Jeanie Ball; his sons, Dave Burleson and Heath Burleson (Natalie); his grandsons, Coe Burleson, Carter Burleson (Emma), Cameron Burleson and Colin Burleson; and his siblings, Betty Burleson Carpenter, David Burleson and Lee Burleson (Amy).

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in his memory to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research or Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF).
