He was predeceased by: his parents, Gardner Harris and Jean Harris. He is survived by: his wife Valerie White Harris; his stepdaughters, Darcy Mainwaring (Todd), Cassie Kobus (Jeremy) and Andrea Bullard; his grandchildren, Emery, Calvin Mainwaring and Wylie Kobus; and his brothers, Marshall Harris (Tracy) and Michael "Mickey" Harris. He is also survived by nephew, three nieces, and many friends and family.

John served the City of Dothan for 27 years, initially as a draftsman and later making significant contributions to the IT Department.
