He was predeceased by: his wife Jewell Bess; his parents, Bunnie V. Pierce Bess and Wesley W. Bess; his daughter-in-law Patricia Rhodes; and his siblings, Kathleen Scofield, Mary Hawthorne, William Bess, Howard Bess and Vester Bess.
He is survived by: his children, Judy Bess Holley (Johnny) and Ray Lamar Rhodes; his sister Margaret Butts; his grandchildren, Joni Holley Bess (Jamie), Chad Rhodes (Casey) and Jana Holley Best (Billy); and his great grandchildren, Aiden Rhodes, Connor Rhodes, Holley Ana, Kinley Daniele, Will Best and Melody Best. He is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel (1018 Florala Hwy, Opp, AL 36467). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Monday, October 5th 2026 at the Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens (Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens, AL-52, Opp, AL 36467).
