He was predeceased by: his parents, William Delmar and Willie Belle Bowden Cherry; his wife Opal "Marie" Welch Cherry; his sisters, Bernell Knight and Joyce Gilley; his siblings-in-law, Carolyn Welch, Ted Knight, Wayne Welch, Freddie Welch, Greg Welch and Jimmy Rex Gilley; his niece Martha Tharpe; and his nephew Michael "Mike" Gilley.
He is survived by: his children, Jamelia Evans (Paul Sr.), David Cherry and Jeffrey Cherry; his grandson Paul Evans, Jr.; and his brother Kenneth Cherry (Sandra). He is also survived by his humongous Rottweiler fur baby.
