He was predeceased by: his parents, Bishop Edwards and Mittie B. Edwards; his grandson Kishmar Jones; and his siblings, Mittie Jewel, Willie Merle "Weeda" Edwards and Carrie "Polly" Austin (William "Buck" Edwards).
He is survived by: his wife Patsy Edwards; his children, Grace Brown (Bernard), Landy Magwood (Deborah), Yolanda Musgrove, James P. Edwards (Jennifer), Elaine Edwards, Paula Stamps (Myron), Toni Edwards and David Edwards; and his siblings, Bishop Edwards, Carlton Edwards, Susan Marshall, Peggy Edwards and Julia Crittendon (Gary). He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and lifelong friends.
