With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Nell Gilmer of Elba, Alabama, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on April 14, 2026 at the age of 91. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her sons, John Randall Gilmer and James Emory Gilmer Jr.; her sister Susan Fletcher (N. C.); and her brothers-in-law, Robert Fletcher and Guy Brewer.
She is survived by: her husband James Emory Gilmer Sr. of Harrisburg, N. C.; her sons, Ronald Thomas Gilmer of Austin and William Lawrence "Bill" Gilmer of Florence, S. C.; her granddaughters, Elizabeth Gilmer Tomberlin, Allison Gilmer, Nerissa Vahle (Mark), Katie Adelaide Gilmer and Caroline Gilmer Marke (Jacob); her great grandchildren, Luke Tomberlin, Jack Vahle and AnnaKate Vahle; her siblings, Perry Wilson (Carol) of Elba, Christine Knudson (Al) of Nanticoke, Judy Brewer of Sarasota, Alice Thrasher (Jerry) of Charlotte, N. C. and Carolyn Johnson (Dave) of Black Mountain, N. C.; Ella Tomberlin.
