He was predeceased by : his parents, James Akin and Mary Johnson Akin; his former life partner Angela Acevedo Akin; and his grandson Connor Jacobs. He is survived by : his wife Laurel O'Connor Akin; and his stepchildren, Emily Nix, Jack Jacobs (Kristen) and Michael Jacobs (Jennifer). He is also survived by five grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Sunday, April 28th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the St. Luke Methodist Church (201 Heath, Enterprise, AL 36330). A memorial service was held on Sunday, April 28th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the St. Luke United Methodist Church (201 Heath, Enterprise, AL 36330).
