He was predeceased by: his parents, James Oliver Mathews (Martha Miller Mathews) and Cisroe; his wife Mavis Mathews; his children, Jeffrey "John" Mathews and Kathleen "Kathy" Watson; his son-in-law Mike Mock; and his siblings, Douglas Mathews and Betty Sue Bowers.
He is survived by: his children, Darlene Mathews Mock of Enterprise and Bobby Mathews (Misty) of Hoover; his siblings, Leon (Sheila), Conrad, Carolyn Ritchey and Carla Taves (Lee); his grandsons, Rusty Barefoot (Karen), Noah Mathews and Spenser Mathews; his great grandchild Seth Barefoot; and his caregiver Savannah. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family.
