He was predeceased by: his wife Aloma S. Johnston; his son Jack Rutherford "Rusty" Johnston, Jr.; his brother Jim Johnston; and his parents, R. O. Johnston and Grace Johnston.
He is survived by: his daughter Angela J. Porter; his stepchildren, Aimee Shouse (Bill) and Jem Blair (Kelli); his daughter-in-law Stephanie Johnston; his sister-in-law Greta Bambarger; his grandchildren, Kelly Johnston Rhodes (Jeff), Jamiee Bules (Neil), Regan Broussard and Laura Lee Spencer Potts (Caleb); his great grandchild Addison Grace Cook; and his caregivers, Clarine Daniels and Angela Lewis. He is also survived by niece's and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Hospice of West Alabama or Union Christian Church.
