He was predeceased by: his father Junior; his sister Barbara Franks; his brother-in-law Thomas Prechel; and his daughter-in-law Kristin Sheubrooks. He is survived by: his son Ralph; his wife Elizabeth; his children, Ann Bowling (Bill), Trey Jennings (Nikki Barba), Melanie Michael (Chet) and Richard Sheubrooks (Monica); his sister Jean; his grandchildren, Blake, Holly Bowling, Chance Jennings, Jack, Zara and Michael Sheubrooks; and his nieces and nephews, Jim, Bethany Prechel, Mike, Marsha Prechel, Laurie, Paul Campbell, Kevin, Sharene Franks and Melanie Franks.

Following his retirement from teaching, Ralph continued his contributions to education by serving as Consultant for Region Four in Texas.
