He was predeceased by : his parents, Daniel Preston and Pearl Long; and his wife Polly. He is survived by : his children, Howard Long (Charlotte) and Amy Long Patton (Thomas); his grandchildren, Margot Carson Patton and Ian Long Patton; and his brother Varon P. Long (Angie).

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Foley, or the Foley Fire Department.
