It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Willie J. Markem of Fayette, Alabama, who passed away on October 7, 2025, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his wife Virginia Faye Box Markem; his brothers, William Jesse Markem, Franklin Monroe Markem, Harvey Samuel Markem and Thomas Junior Markem; and his stepgreat-grandson Kody Meadows.

He is survived by: his children, Barbara Byars and Benjamin "Benjy" Markem (Kimberly); his grandchildren, Jason Boyce, Amy Boyce Meadows (James), Heath Byars (Kelsea), Kyle Byars, Madyson Brand (Caleb), Dalton Markem and Kolton Markem; his great grandchildren, Brittney Boyce, Katelyn Meadows, Cari Meadows, Lilli Meadows and Hayden Byars; and his great great grandchildren, J. R. Cook and Ryleigh Fields.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 10th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Norwood-Wyatt Chapel (707 Temple Ave N, Fayette, AL 35555). A funeral service will be held on Friday, October 10th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
