He was predeceased by: his parents, Frank Vines and Ruth Butler Potts; his uncle James Amos; and his aunt Mary Frances Potts Wilbanks. He is survived by: his wife Irene Elisabeth Potts; his children, Julie Anna Potts (Parks Shackelford) and Robert Leslie Potts, Jr. (Holly); his grandchildren, Olivia, Ella, Duke Shackelford, Claire and Anna Leslie Potts; his siblings, Myra Yeates (John), Emily O'Toole, Nancy Potts (John McAndrew) and Frank B. Potts (Amy); and his siblings-in-law, Lars Frank, Siv Gustavsson, Marianne Gunnarsson and Henry Groth (Anqi). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Robert wished that any memorial contributions be directed to the First Presbyterian Church of Florence 3rd Century Fund, the University of North Alabama Foundation Endowment or the charity of one's choice.
