He was predeceased by: his brothers, James R. Gardner and Johnnie Joe Gardner; his brother-in-law Billy Grimes; and his uncles, J. L. Gardner and Edgar "Butler" Gardner.
He is survived by: his wife Janice Jones Gardner of Fruitdale, AL; his sons, Jason Gardner of Livingston, AL and Alex Gardner (Allison) of Crawford, MS; and his siblings, Earnest "Pete" Gardner (Marilyn) of State Line, MS and Beatrice Grimes of Georgia.
