He was predeceased by: his wife Glenda Burgett Payne; his parents, Clydie Payne and Willie Payne; and his siblings, Evelyn, Gertrude, Othell, Travis, Morris and Earl.

He is survived by: his sons, Kerry (Julie) and Kevin (Beth); his grandchildren, Chris Payne, Rebekah Payne, Taylor Payne (Lauren) and Brittany Simmons (Ben); his great grandchildren, Jase, Wilson, Jack, Avalyn, Olive and Charlotte; and his brother-in-law Frank. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on Friday, September 26th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Morgan Funeral Chapel (625 Gilbert Ferry Rd SE, Attalla, AL 35954). A funeral service was held on Friday, September 26th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
