He was predeceased by: his son James Olen Cooper; his daughter-in-law Kathy Miller; his granddaughter Sasha Bruce Tarvin; and his son-in-law Lee Bruce. He is survived by: his daughters, Julie Gunnels (Shane) and Judith Cooper; and his grandchildren, Savannah Cooper, James Bruce, Matthew Bruce, Jeremy Bruce and Jeremy Cash. He is also survived by many great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to North Gadsden Church of God in his honor.
