He was predeceased by: his parents, Ivan Charles Schaekel and Kathryn Schaekel (Macy); and his siblings, Darl Schaekel, Marita Beaty and Judy Stuck.

He is survived by: his children, Mitzi McCarthy (Brian), Tonya Schaekel (Mark Brumfield), Rachael Deeds (Joshua) and Ivan Schaekel; his sister Verla Schaekel; his friend Mary Reinhardt; and his pet LuLu. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to the National Down Syndrome Society, 8 East 41 St, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10017 or envelopes will be available at the mortuary.
